Class Etiquette

  1. No egos or bad attitudes will be permitted at this academy. Everyone is here to learn. Tapping out is OK and is part of the learning process. Never brag. This is training, where we should always be trying different techniques and situations to better our skills.
  2. Introduce yourself to new students or students that you do not know and make people feel welcome.
  3. When the instructor is teaching, there should be no talking. We are all here to learn, so there should be no talking, even if you have seen the technique before and think you already know it well.
  4. When class starts, talking about anything other than the style you are training in should be kept to a minimum.
  5. If you arrive early and another class is in session, do not disrupt the other class.
  6. If you need to take a phone call during class, or while waiting, be respectful of the class and step away to take the call.
  7. If an instructor comes over to help you or your partner with a technique, do not interrupt the instructor and try to help at the same time. Let the instructor finish, and ask questions after.
  8. No outside shoes or food on the mat at any time. Wrestling shoes without gum soles or sneakers are permitted if they are only worn indoors.
  9. It is important for everyone to keep the academy sanitary at all times. Make sure you are clean. Keep all your training equipment, clothing, and uniform clean for each training session. Wash your Gi frequently. Students who come to class with poor hygiene will be asked to leave the academy.
  10. Keep your finger and toe nails short for everyone’s safety.
  11. Absolutely no dangerous technique, like slamming, or pulling fingers, or temper issues, will be tolerated.
  12. Try to be on time. Traffic issues and everyday matters are understood, but try to be on time if possible.
  13. Foul language of any kind will not be tolerated within the academy.
  14. All students are required to report any injury, health issue, or skin condition to their instructor prior to class.
  15. Absolutely no alcohol or illegal drugs are allowed on the premises. Any student who is suspected to be under the influence of a drug or alcohol while at the academy will not be allowed to train, and risks having their membership at Tech MMA terminated.
